Simon and Lynn Clarke opened Clarkes Restaurant about one and a half years ago and has never looked back. Clarkes has already in this short time established its self as one of the best and most popular places in Bath. So much so that they had to expand the bar. "Hello to the Chazz Bar" located directly above Clarkes, when you enter you could quite possibly be in any bouchour bar in London or Paris. It is very colonial with is big armchairs, huge feathered couches, Chinese trunks as tables and long banquets covered in brown leather it truly is beautiful.... Geared towards the 25 plus (finally I don't feel like I could be everyones mother) which is hard to find in Bath these days add to the enjoyment. We started by lookin at the wine list which boasts over 110 wines, 11 by the glass but were caught by the cocktail list luring at us from a table. After much "oos and ahhs" I decided on the Californian Sunset
(Finlandia Vodka , Peach Schnapps, Triple Sec, Lime, Orange and Cranberry Juice) It was excellent
.
My partner ordered a Cosmopolitan, being a bit cosmo himself we thought it would be a good test
(he drank three more). Enough said....
This truly is a wonderful bar and great to see in Bath, we enjoyed it so much that I booked it for my 40th. The Chazz Bar is only open on Friday and Saturday Nights from 7.00pm but I hear they may start live music on Thursday evenings so call and find out. Highly recommend a visit, just hope it stays exclusive.

I have noticed that the mound of clippings on my desk has steadily been getting larger and larger, to the point where I have no choice but to take notice: Clarke’s was recently voted ‘Best Restaurant in Bath’ and listed in the ‘Top Ten Restaurants’ of the South-west.

I always love an excuse to get back to Bath, and shouldn’t Clarke’s alone be worth the excursion?

I’ll get straight to the point: from the welcome at the door to the air kisses on the departure, I have to say that it was some of the most fantastic - if not the best - food, wine and atmosphere I have ever had in all my visits to Bath.

The menu is supposedly ‘French Core’, but I found it hard to pin down, with influences from Asia to Alaska. The flavours in the food are truly orgasmic, washed down with a wine list that has ‘Decanter Award’ written all over it.

Ah, but do you need a mortgage to dine here? Clarke’s is cheaper than your local gastro pub and should and could raise their prices a lot higher. The owner’s philosophies are great food, wine, service and atmosphere, all under one roof and at a reasonable price.

I have to say that he’s excelled himself with Clarke’s and I look forward to one opening in Bristol - hopefully soon.

Departing note: as the table wasn’t quite ready upon arrival, we had a drink at The Chazz Bar, situated above Clarke’s. If you haven’t been there, visit their website and tell me it’s not the coolest bar you’ve seen in Bath.

My vote - two thumbs up.
